Waterborne Urbanism

This project reinterprets the traditional "Painted Boat" (Hua Fang) of Suzhou as a modular, floating architectural prototype to revitalize historic water networks. Drawing inspiration from the flexible spatial logic of Jiangnan water towns, the design employs a hexagonal modular system that can be combined into diverse functional typologies, such as floating galleries, tea houses, and libraries. By utilizing a "Plug-in" structural logic, these units adapt to the fluctuating urban fabric, transforming static canals into dynamic public spaces.

The system integrates advanced physical computing with an autonomous navigation framework. Each module is equipped with a hydraulic stabilization system and a smart piloting interface, allowing the structures to navigate autonomously or dock collectively to form temporary floating plazas. This synthesis of traditional aesthetics and future technology offers a sustainable solution for urban water transport and cultural preservation, enhancing the experiential connection between the city and its aquatic heritage.
